Sumar has requested the appearance of the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, before the Permanent Deputation of Congress to explain the train accident in Urda (Toledo), an incident that has shocked the political space located on the minority wing of the Government.
The request was disseminated by the Broad Front candidate, Ada Colau, through a message on social media, in which she stressed that, at such a "painful" moment as this, "transparency and all necessary explanations are more necessary than ever."
Broad Front demands transparency and an independent audit
The federal coordinator of United Left (IU), Antonio Maíllo, has also publicly supported the request for clarification and stated on the social network X that Broad Front "will demand maximum transparency" regarding what happened in the Urda train accident.
Maíllo insisted that "an independent audit must be carried out to analyze the state of the railway network" and added: "We will demand full information and the technical and political responsibilities that arise. Without hesitation."
In a statement issued this Wednesday, Broad Front had already demanded political responsibilities after the incident, considering it "unacceptable" that two serious train accidents occur in the same year. The coalition has also canceled its pre-campaign agenda until further notice.
Rufián points to cuts and the railway model
The head of the list for ERC for Barcelona and deputy in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, has attributed the tragedy to "investment cuts by the PP first and the savage market liberalization by the PSOE later." In a message published on X, he maintained that an "unacceptable" situation, as described by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, "requires the assumption of responsibilities, not leaks to transfer them."
Rufián was referring to the leaked audio of the communication, moments before the accident, from the Adif control center with the drivers of both the AVE and the Iryo train against which the former collided, an incident that caused the death of 68 people and left more than one hundred injured.
"A single person cannot be responsible for the lives of hundreds when it comes to railway transport," said the ERC leader, before adding that "a human error is the reflection of a failed security system."
Support for victims and minute of silence in Seville
Antonio Maíllo, in addition to demanding transparency and a technical audit, has shown his support for the families of the victims and the injured, while highlighting the work of public employees and the citizen response after the accident.
"Spanish society (except for a few vultures) has, once again, risen to the occasion. Organizing solidarity, donating blood, and sharing the relevant information. Thanks also to all of them," he remarked in his message.
The federal coordinator of IU attended this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. the minute of silence called by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) at the Palacio de San Telmo, together with the Andalusian Government and representatives of the political groups.
