Abascal turns the concentration for Ceuta into a rally against Sánchez and calls him "traitor" and "dangerous psychopath"

Santiago Abascal landed this Wednesday at the Cibeles concentration ready to dynamite the “non-partisan” character that the Popular Party had attributed to the call. The leader of the far-right Vox took advantage of the citizen support for Ceuta to launch a rally against Pedro Sánchez, whom he called “traitor” and “dangerous psychopath” before thousands of people.

The event, promoted by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces and supported by the Madrid City Council, had been presented as a show of unity with the people of Ceuta. However, the first chants against Sánchez began before the concentration formally started. Abascal finished clearing up any doubts by proclaiming that the attendees were united “against this traitorous Government.”

An unproven accusation against Sánchez

The president of Vox has accused the Executive of acting as a “lackey” of Morocco and has assured that his ministers act as spokespersons for the regime of Mohammed VI. He has also described the massive entry of migrants as a “plain invasion” within a supposed hybrid war promoted by Rabat with “the complicity” of the Spanish president.

Abascal has presented these accusations as proven facts despite the known police document keeping the authorship of what happened open. The report from the National Immigration and Borders Center states that Moroccan agents guided migrants towards the Tarajal breakwater, speaks of permissiveness and considers that the entry was planned, although it avoids pointing to the Moroccan State as the organizer. The director general of the Police has also informed the Interior Ministry that the text does not attribute to Morocco “the planning or execution” of the crisis. The document has been sent to the Audiencia Nacional.

The far-right leader has again asked the PP to support an accusation against Sánchez for treason under article 102 of the Constitution. His 33 deputies are far from the 88 needed to initiate the procedure. Afterwards, the support of an absolute majority of Congress, set at 176 votes, would be needed. Abascal took the opportunity to reproach the PP for its “lukewarmness”, despite sharing the concentration with Alberto Núñez Feijóo, Isabel Díaz Ayuso and José Luis Martínez-Almeida.

Ceuta is buried by the row

The concentrations have gathered tens of thousands of people in different parts of Spain. In Madrid, insults against the president have coexisted with slogans of support for Ceuta. The same scene has been repeated in other cities. In Valencia, the speech of a Ceuta native was interrupted with serious disqualifications against Sánchez, while in Barcelona, proclamations such as "Christian Spain and not Muslim" were heard. The day was marked by attacks on the Government.

Members of the neo-Nazi group Núcleo Nacional participated in the parallel protest held in front of Congress. The National Police had to intervene after several protesters insulted and pushed journalists. A few meters away, in Callao square, hundreds of people supported an anti-racist concentration under the slogan "racists out of institutions."

Abascal has extended his attacks to the safety of women, the prosperity of families, free elections, and the survival of the democratic system. When journalists asked him what reason Sánchez would have to supposedly serve Morocco, the Vox leader finally admitted that he did not know. "I don't know," he replied before assuring that he hopes to discover it if he manages to have the president tried for treason.
